Graduation day may still seem like a long ways off, but actually you are almost half-way there! Sophomore year is the perfect time to start thinking about careers and preparing yourself for the job market. Don't stress if you feel like you are lacking focus right now-many students will change their majors or career goals multiple times throughout college, and you still have time to make decisions. This site is specifically designed for you, to give you the career resources to help you navigate your Sophomore year and beyond.

 

How do I choose a major?

Choosing a major can seem like an overwhelming process. The Career Center is here to help you! We have a variety of tools and resources that can help you work through this decision:

 

I have a major... Now what?

If you have a declared major, the next step is to start focusing your career goals. These tools can help you to explore career options in a variety of industries, as well as ways to get experience.

  • Exploring Careers. Research occupations, learn about informational interviewing, and develop a career plan.
  • Sign up for CareerRAM. Use this site to explore job and internship postings and get connected with alumni in a variety of career fields through our CareerRAM Network.
  • Get Involved! If you haven't found ways to get involved on campus yet, check out the huge array of student organizations that CSU has to offer, as well as volunteer opportunities. These are great ways to increase your skills and gain experience.

 

Can I do an internship as a Sophomore?

YES!!!!

Have you always thought internships are only for Juniors and Seniors? Not true! By doing an internship earlier, you can gain even more experience, and can also help you figure out what industry you want to work in. Check out our internship page to learn more, or sign on to CareerRAM to see current internships that are available to CSU students. Our Career Counselors are also available to help you explore other internship opportunities.

 

How do I write a resume?

A resume is one of the most important tools you will need to get a job or internship, and you will use it throughout your life. The Career Center has a variety of tools to assist you with resume writing.

  • OptimalResume. This is a great program to use if you have never written a resume before.
  • Come to our walk-in hours at our office in the Lory Student Center for help to get started on a resume, or to have a draft or your resume critiqued by one of our counselors.
